About the Course
The Basic First Aid blended course offered through Human Kinetics tailors the American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI) first aid curriculum to the physical activity professional and volunteer audience. The course combines a unique blend of online self-study followed by instructor-led training and competency assessment that provides a practical means of obtaining certification in basic first aid.
Participants begin their two-step training process with the online course. Its interactive, scenario-based format uses situations relevant to coaches, physical educators, fitness instructors, and other physical activity professionals to help participants learn lifesaving training within their work context and be prepared to take action using the proper protocol when sudden illness or injury occurs.
After completing the online course, participants attend a fast-paced and engaging instructor-led session. During this session, participants work through a series of scenarios to practice the skills and knowledge gained in the online course and complete a written test and practical exam to receive certification through the American Safety & Health Institute (ASHI).
Basic First Aid outlines the four steps to an emergency response; presents the proper response to emergency situations and demonstrates basic first aid care for a variety of common injuries; and discusses how to identify and treat various first aid emergencies, such as limb, spine, and head injuries, soft-tissue injuries, heat- and cold-related injuries, sudden illness, bleeding, and shock.
