FAQ
FAQ
How does online training work?
Courses in the Emergency Care Education Center are "blended" courses. They consist of two parts: Part A is an online education course, which is accessed through the ECEC Web site; Part B is an in-person session with a certified instructor at an ASHI/Human Kinetics Training Center. Although you can take the online course without the Part B training, the in-person training is required for certification.
How long can I access the online course?
All Emergency Care online courses can be accessed for one year from the date you first begin the course.
How do I know what courses I or my staff need to take?
Check with your organization for the exact requirements for certification. Some professions require CPR/AED training, while others require additional basic first aid training. If you are unsure, our Complete Emergency Care course covers four areas: CPR/AED, basic first aid, bloodborne pathogens, and emergency oxygen. Each conforms to the 2005 American Heart Association Guidelines for Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and Emergency Cardiovascular Care.
You can also click on the appropriate profession page for guidelines on courses that apply to your area. Listings of professions plus applicable courses for each can be found on the home page.
What is an authorized HK/ASHI Training Center?
Facilities and organizations wishing to conduct ASHI emergency care training using the Human Kinetics online courses must become Training Centers. All certified instructors or people interested in becoming emergency care instructors must be affiliated with a Training Center.

How do I become a certified Instructor?
Human Kinetics Instructor Training utilizes our highly effective blended-learning experience consisting of a self-paced online course and an in-person hands-on training session. Both parts must be completed for certification.
Steps to become a certified HK/ASHI Emergency Care Instructor:
- Complete an application and submit it to Human Kinetics.
- Once your application is approved, purchase the Part A Online Instructor Course from HK by contacting us at sarap@hkusa.com. Part A must be completed prior to attending a Part B classroom session.
- Schedule a Part B session with a certified Instructor Trainer through Human Kinetics.
If you are already a certified CPR/AED or Emergency Care Instructor with American Red Cross, American Heart Association, Ellis & Associates or National Safety Council, you can earn reciprocal certification by completing the Part A Online Instructor Course.
If you are already a certified CPR/AED or Emergency Care Instructor with American Safety and Health Institute(ASHI), you are automatically qualified to teach Emergency Care courses utilizing our blended learning experience. Contact HK for more details.

How do I know if my staff has completed the online course?
When you become a Training Center, you gain access to our innovative instructor and class management system, which allows you to track multiple locations, instructors, and classes. This includes status of current students’ progress, when students have completed Part A (online course) and Part B (in-person training), and when students have received their certification materials.
